The 32X was, contrary to popular belief, a superb piece of hardware, as top games like Virtua Racing Deluxe and Doom testify. The problem was that Sega misread the market, and assumed that the millions of MegaDrive / Genesis owners would be happy to upgrade to 32-Bit at a lower, more affordable price than the route offered by the PS1 or Sega Saturn. Unfortunately, while that should have happened, the PlayStation and, to a slightly lesser degree, Saturn, grabbed all the limelight and with it, the imagination of the gaming public. And so the 32X was seen as the poor man's console which nobody wanted. Even though they couldn't afford one, they preferred to dream of owning a PSOne than actually owning a 32X. It's a shame this happened, and due to it's relative failure and the fact that Sega were having a nightmare trying to get to grips with the Saturn, not a lot of truly great games were made for 32X. I guess Sega spread themselves too thinly with the two consoles. Sega Japan weren't really interested in the 32X, preferring to start afresh with the Saturn. At least early on, Sega of America loved the idea, but the sales weren't as hoped. In addition to the wanting what you can't have situation with the Saturn and PS1, a lot of Genesis owners had felt a bit let down by the relative lack of support the Sega CD received, and didn't want to buy yet another add-on with an unproven software library. Sega had the exact same problems in Europe, where the Mega CD had received even less support than it had in the US.

Still, we maintain it was a great idea. We just wish Sega had made a single console rather than two... but trying to tell anyone the 32X was probably a more sound idea than the Saturn and should have been the ONLY 32-bit console Sega made (along with an all-in-one Neptune which would have been the big push in Japan) would make us look crazy, even more so since we loved the Saturn!

Ensure you have a Japanese MegaDrive 1 or 2 console.

Overall very good condition but see pictures for full details: ACTUAL ITEM PICTURED. The console always looks more scratched in pictures than it really looks when you see it in person, but we don't want to just show dark pictures with no detail! Includes all the cables to connect to both the Mega Drive 1 and Mega Drive 2. Also includes the little plastic extender / spacer for the MD2. Includes the original Sega power supply (input 100v so you'll need a step down transformer if you live in a 220/240v region like the UK or Europe). Alternatively you can use a local Mega Drive 2 power supply to run this console.
Note that we only ever crop our photos. We never enhance/retouch them!

You'll need AV cables or a SCART cable to connect from the 32X to the TV. You can use Mega Drive 2 cables.

Power supply is 100v so you may need a step-down transformer (50W is fine).
