Thunder Force IV certainly lives up to the Thunder Force legacy with it's state-of-the-art visuals which really push the MegaDrive to it's limits. It's a worthy sequel to TF3, although as is the case with many sequels, the opinion is split as to whether it's actually a better game or not. Generally the hardcore gamers prefer Thunder Force IV, and it's certainly a much tougher game than III. Either way, it's definitely one of the shoot 'em up greats and belongs in the collection of any shooter fan because it's a Thunder Force game, because it's a superb shooter, and because it's a technical tour de force! It is one of those games, rather like Last Resort on the Neo-Geo, which seems to have grown better with age.
