Cross Wiber: Cyber Combat Police (FACE Vol. 8) - Brand New/Sealed! by Face
PC Engine  |  Jap  |   1 Player   |   Action Adventure
Features scrolling action levels which are like a futuristic sci-fi version of The NinjaWarriors. I hate to say it, but I was never a huge fan of Ninja Warriors. It was well-made and fun but I always got bored after a few minutes due to the repetitiveness. Cyber Combat Police features quite a bit more variety so one could argue it's the better game: far greater variety of enemies, more variation of backgrounds an landscapes, more platformey stuff going on, and you have to dodge bullets. However, if you do still find it repetitive, don't give up, because there are also horizontally scrolling shooter levels when your dude hops on a flying motorbike and does battle above the city. Which makes it look slightly like Aero Blasters perhaps. But with your twin forward lasers and bombs, it arguably plays more like Super Darius II I guess (trying to think of a more apt comparison but that's all I can come up with right now). Yes, it's all still a bit repetitive, but overall it's a pretty cool game. It looks nice and even if you're not a huge fan of this style of sub-Final Fight brawler, the other aspects of the game do a pretty decent job of hiding the basic repetitiveness of the action and it would still be worth picking up because of the shmup levels. The closest thing I can think of to it is probably Rendering Ranger R2 on the Super Famicom. I find the action levels on that game hugely boring so I'd say the action levels of Cross Wiber are more interesting, but perhaps Rendering Ranger has better shooter levels.Rendering Ranger has better shooter levels.
