Thunder Force V (Thunder Force 5) Satakore / Sega Saturn Collection by Tecno Soft

Thunderforce 5 is a simply fabulous game, and it definitely lives up to the legacy of the previous MegaDrive games, in terms of being an awesome game, and being the technical tour-de-force that you've come to expect from the TF series. The game is available on PSOne, but the Saturn original absolutely destroys it! For a website which has loads of GREAT movies of the game (although they are HUGE, so let that be a warning to non-broadband users), check out: THIS SITE

March 2015: I’ve been playing Thunder Force V again during the last week and I’ve fallen in love with it all over again! Over the last decade or so I’ve sort of felt that TFV is a great game which has aged quite badly, almost like like Daytona USA or something (but obviously not to that extent). But I finally played it on an old CRT TV for the first time in ages and I think that helped a lot. It’s not perfect, and I think it would have benefitted from an extra few weeks of making it run that bit smoother but it’s back vying for honours as top Saturn shooter IMO! Once you hook into the game and forget about the little bits here and there which might have been smoothed out with a bit more development time, you’re left with what is basically just a seriously amazing shooter. It absolutely lives up to the expectations of the previous games in the series: it's fast, it's stylish, it throws things at you from all over and it oozes that special feeling that the developers are the absolute masters of the genre which is something I think Tecno Soft have pulled off over the years more than any other developer, especially from a technical point. Toaplan had it with their feeling and gameplay, Treasure have had it at times but there's just something different about the best Tecno Soft games. I really don't think anyone else could have made this game.

THIS IS THE RE-RELEASED SEGA SATURN COLLECTION VERSION, WHICH HAS IT'S COVER ARTWORK SURROUNDED BY A WHITE BORDER.
