Kingdom Grandprix (Shippu Mahou Daisakusen / Kingdom-Grandprix) by RAIZING *Near-Mint ONE OWNER FROM NEW* by Raizing / Gaga
Saturn  |  Jap  |   2 Players   |   Traditional Shooter & Driving/Racing
Kingdom-Grandprix is a superb shooter from Raizing, makers of the some of the Saturn's best and most memorable blasters (Battle Garegga & Soukyugurentai Otokuyo). This one's certainly a little bit out of the ordinary in that you're racing while you're shooting!

Being unique, Kingdom Grandprix is pretty hard to describe, but I'll have a go: basically, the game is set in a Kingdom (think 2D RPG land), where you have to race against 7 other characters, all controlling various different craft, and at the same time shoot all the bad guys. I have no idea of the story, so the reason for you doing this is lost on me, but being a shooter, that's all besides the point - whoever cared about a storyline in a shooter anyway?! The game is vertically scrolling, set in a border in the tradition of most vertical arcade games. At the bottom left of the screen, you have a little speedo. To go faster, you have to generally move up the screen. Staying at the bottom slows you down, and you'll almost certainly be in last place by the end of each level. At first, this is pretty weird, and you may even want to forget about the whole racing part, and just get used to the shooting action. Once you're into the game properly, you can start to attempt to really fly, but it'll probably be a while before you do any winning!

Graphically the game is totally unique - it looks like a cross between a really pretty 2D RPG with great artwork, and a regular shooter. You're flying past towns populated by people and other landscapes which look right out of an RPG, but you're doing battle with regular shoot 'em up enemies, albeit all with a 'fantasy' theme of some sort. It really does look so cool, and, possibly Gunbird aside, it's quite unlike anything else out there. Your character seems to move quite quickly - a bit like Battle Garegga where the screen isn't fully zoomed out, but after an hour or so, you should get used to it.

Overall, a superb game, with a LOT of character, which is very unique. Even without the racing element, it would be a great shooter, as you'd expect from the mighty Raizing.

Overall very good condition but see pictures for full details: ACTUAL ITEM PICTURED. This game is part of a collection we bought from a guy who bought all his Sega Saturn games new, so he was the only owner. We know that sounds like we're advertising a used car, but the guy had hundreds of games and almost all of them were mint or very close to mint. Note that we only ever crop our photos. We never enhance/retouch them!
