Neo-Geo CD  |  Jap  |   2 Players   |   Arcade-style Action & Traditional Shooter
The very first Neo Geo game is an absolutely fantastic, timeless classic shooter which, in the style of games like Cabal, is like a hybrid of a gun game which you control with a Joypad, and a constantly scrolling character-based shooter where you can actually see your little character onscreen, and allow him to move around and dodge enemy fire.

I'll never forget the first time I played this game when the Neo Geo first came out, being utterly stunned by the fantastic speech of the intro, then going into the game, and just LOVING EVERY SECOND. This is what games are all about - pure fun, with the ability to completely absorb you! Playing this again makes me feel so disappointed that SNK spent so much of their resources updating their fighting games year after year, because if they'd put more effort into making more original games like this, the gaming world would be a better, more diverse place. I'm not embarrassed to say that this, the very first Neo Geo release, is still perhaps my favourite game on the system. I know that puts me in something of a minority where all around me, Neo owners are drooling over Metal Slug, Blazing Star and King Of Fighters 2003, and here I am, still in love with the very first release for the console! I love it because it encapsulates EVERYTHING which makes the console so great, and a conversion on the MegaDrive or SNES would have just been a complete failure by comparison because it's one of those games which is excellent at it's core but the sprinkling of Neo Geo-ness elevates it into true greatness and, try as they might, those consoles could never generate that special fairy dust.
