Dark Savior (Dark Saviour) - ***1 by Climax / Sega
Saturn  |  Jap  |   1 Player   |   Action Adventure & RPGs
Dark Saviour is the unofficial sequel to the MegaDrive masterpiece, Land Stalker. To the developers, Climax, it may have been something of a bridge too far. The game took over 2 years to develop, and for a fairly small team, tapping the potential of the difficult Saturn (this should have been an early Saturn game) proved a frustrating experience. It was rumoured that Sega eventually aided the game's production, in order to get it finished. From a gaming point, all of this isn't so obvious. The graphics are quite lovely. Similar to Land Satlker but fully 3D. It's a difficult game at times, and many people feel that it was inferior to the MD game. On the other hand, I know people who feel this is one of the Saturn's finest moments! Either way, if you're a fan of action-RPGs, you owe it to yourself to pick up this game at some point. It's certainly value for money.
