Space Fantasy Zone - CD/Unreleased Game - Brand New/Sealed! by NEC Avenue
PC Engine | Jap | 1 Player | Traditional Shooter & 3D Shooter
スペースファンタジーゾーン Space Fantasy Zone is a mix between Fantasy Zone (Sega's 2D Shoot'em ups featuring Opa Opa) and Space Harrier (Sega's legendary Pseudo 3D shoot'em up). The game was programmed and advertised by NEC Avenue on various occasions between 1990 and 1992, but never saw a proper release. It's not really known why, but probably due to rights issues in the licensing process with Sega. A mediocre CD-R version has been available in Japan since the late 90s. Cover and backside were colour-copied from a flyer NEC released to distributors shortly before an anticipated release in 1992. The version available always suffered from faulty audio which caused cracking sounds and delayed audio when a new track was played. Prices on Japanese auctions are ranging from 30,000 to 60,000yen nevertheless. The small-run version available now has corrected audio tracks, comes with high-quality cover artwork, back-inlay, spinecard and a mini-poster featuring the ad from a 90s PC Engine Fan issue plus the preview article from another PC Engine magazine back in the early '90s. It's highly collectable all around and fits perfectly into any PC Engine collection. The game plays on all System Card versions, so there's no need for System 3.0 card or an Arcade Card. This is the exact same version which has recently been selling on Japanese auctions for over 1000 pounds! To most people, it would look as good as a regular official release game. The game itself is great, and I think many people would say it's a better game than Space Harrier. It's truly a shame that the game didn't ever see a release back in it's day but the great quality of this package makes up for it. Brand new/shrinkwrapped game. ACTUAL ITEM PICTURED.
